Last night I was catching up on the Showtime series, Ray Donovan.
With one last punch to the face, the episode ends and the screen goes black. A beat later, a wailing and scratchy "I am alone / in this cold, empty home" swings in followed by a bluesy guitar, and the credits begin.
My senses perked.
Who is this singing? What band is this?
The singer, a man, had a voice reminiscent of Jack White and the band's sound was in the realm of Alabama Shakes, Dan Auerbach and Scoundrels, all of whom I'm on board with.
After a bit of searching, I discovered that it was Leopold and his Fiction.
Now envision hearing that right after seeing Ray Donovan get punched in the face three times. It was phenomenal. All the props to Music Supervisor Nora Felder.
Leopold and his Fiction have released three albums, their most recent being in 2012. I hope there's more to come. In the meantime, I have a bit to dive into.
